05 Apr 12 − On 13 February Prince Willem Alexander opened the exhibition Sweet&Salt at the Kunsthal Rotterdam. This show takes as its central focus one of the defining elements of the Dutch identity: water.

05 Apr 12 − At the end of February DUS Architects organised a fundraising party for the RoomMaker, the world’s first large-scale and mobile 3D printer. The RoomMaker can print complete spaces of 3 x 3 x 2.4 metres. The launch of the open source project was festively marked with 3D champagne glasses printed by the new piece of equipment. The first 3D-printed room is expected in September.

05 Apr 12 − On 20 April the fifth International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam opens to the public. The central question posed is: ‘How do we make city?’ Various future scenarios will be explored in an open intellectual atmosphere during the IABR. The objective is to come up with better solutions for pressing social issues with future-oriented (design) research. Just as in previous IABR events, Making City includes research projects that received support from the Netherlands Architecture Fund. During the biennale we will report regularly on these through the newsletter.

05 Apr 12 − Under the name kaalenkammen (translation: ‘bald and hairy’), architect Michel Heesen and photographer Hans Stakelbeek travelled the 10,000-kilometre-long European highway E50, from Brest in France to Makhachkala on the Caspian Sea. During their journey they studied the future of mobility in Europe.
